This key is what makes the Philips HeartStart FRx AED so cost effective to own. Other AEDs use pediatric electrode pads for use on children. It means you'll have to regularly replace them just like adult electrodes pads. The FRx uses a "key" that when inserted into the device, converts the FRx into a pediatric defibrillator.
With the FRx infant/child key, you will never have to buy pediatric pads. When the key is inserted into the FRx, the AED is automatically placed into pediatric mode. The device will then reduce the energy delivered and provide voice prompts specific for pediatric care. The infant/child key should be used to treat children under 55 lbs or less than 8 years old.
